How Katy Perry and her sisters performed in the Whitney Houston Songbook
The songwriting of Katy Perry, Whitney Houston and Beyoncé, as well as a selection of her other works, will be included in the forthcoming Whitney Houston Biopic, according to a document obtained by NBC News.
The biopic, which is expected to be released in May, will feature interviews with the artists and performers, the document said.
Perry and Houston shared a stage in 2011 as part of the Whitney World Series and 2012 World Tour and have also shared their home arenas in recent years.
The document did not disclose which performances Perry will perform, but the document did say they will be “in their prime” and will “continue to evolve” throughout their careers.
“We know the artists can be as prolific as they are prolific, and we know that Katy Perry has the skills to craft an engaging and expansive sound, and Whitney Houston is the most talented and prolific artist in the history of our genre,” said the document.
“As for their sister, we know Beyoncé is as gifted a performer and a singer as anyone in pop music, and Katy Perry can sing in the same way, but we know the songs are a reflection of her life experiences.
We have a deep connection with her.”
The document does not identify which singers will be part of what is billed as “a multi-generational, multi-talented team,” though it does say that the team will be led by singer Cher, who was born in Paris.
Perri and Houston have both been on the cover of Time magazine’s Person of the Year and were on the covers of People, People, New York Times, People and People.
The document said they have both recorded their own songs, but they will not perform any of their own.
The film will be directed by Whitney Bingham, who previously produced the Broadway hit musical Wicked, which was adapted into a film in 2017.
The documents, dated Jan. 10 and released on Tuesday, were written by Warner Bros. Entertainment, which has previously produced films starring Whitney Houston.
The Whitney Houston Collection is a collection of her songs that is expected, in part, to be included.
The Biopic will be produced by producer David O. Russell and producer Peter Rosenberg.
